Walden House receives most of its funding from the State of California and the City and County of San Francisco, with more moderate amounts from federal government and foundation grants, and from counties other than San Francisco. These funds provide the financial support for most of our program needs.
However, many of our programs are not fully funded by these funding sources, and we need to go beyond them to provide the full range of services that our clients need. One of our critical areas of need is our residential adolescent program, which is never fully funded and always operates with an annual deficit. Those programs that help our clients prepare for re-entry- educational, vocational, and housing- are very important programs that are also underfunded.
With your help we can keep these programs going, and add needed services. In making your contribution, you can designate a program (residential adolescent program, for example) to receive your contribution, or a program area (mental health services, for example), or simply make an unrestricted donation and we will apply your contribution where it is most needed.
Corporate Gifts
The Development Department is happy to work with your company in making a gift to Walden House. During the 2006 fiscal year, Walden House received $1.4 million from 300 companies, with gifts both In-Kind and Cash ranging from $20 to over $10,000. We thank these corporations for their generous support.
Corporate gifts can be divided into two categories:
Cash
- Unrestricted gift to annual operating funds
- Restricted gift to a program or program area
Gifts-in-Kind
- Company products
- New or Used equipment

Matching Gifts
More than 1,300 companies sponsor matching gift programs and will match any charitable contributions made by their employees. If you or your spouse work for a matching gift company, request a matching gift form from the personnel office and send it completed and signed with your gift. We will do the rest.
