Job Description:
Participates in treatment of all client-parents in SATF. Works with clients on issues related to parenting and family reunification. When necessary is liaison with Child Protective Services (CPS). Conducts outreach to clients and their families informing them of the availability of in-custody family services.
Treatment Planning: In conjunction with Clinical Assessment and Treatment Plan Review teams, evaluates clients’ family service needs and develops a treatment plan. Updates treatment plan as clients progress through various phases of treatment, ultimately working with Transitional Case Manager to provide further treatment upon release from prison. Assists client with assessing family services in their community. Works with transitional component of program by assisting families to support placement in continuing care.
Clinical Responsibilities: Receives referrals from program counselors. Meets with residents to assess needs and develop family services treatment plan. Conducts groups on family issues. Works with residents and their families to arrange family counseling. Conducts individual and multi-family counseling. Provides consultation to all counseling staff on family issues and families in crisis.
Administration and Compliance: In accordance with guidelines established by Walden House to satisfy internal and external administrative demands, and those of evaluating agencies and CDCR, maintains accurate records on clients. Ensures action on items in logs daily. Ensures that all forms are completed properly by staff. Participates in Facility COI. Ensures that events of significance are documented.
Community and Case Management Responsibilities: Leads family education and parenting groups, classes, workshops, and seminars. Facilitates multi-family groups and individual family therapy on weekends. Works with transitional component to provide outreach to families in support of aftercare upon parole. Assist residents to gain access to family services after parole. Works weekend shifts as assigned.
Department of Corrections Responsibilities: Works with CDCR by attending meetings, trainings and upholding norms, policies, and procedures of CDCR.
Role Model: Acts as role model by following norms, dressing appropriately, demonstrating honesty, integrity, and a willingness to listen to clients’ issues, and taking responsibility for own actions.
PREREQUISITES:
• Masters degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field
• Knowledge of group process, group facilitation and conflict resolution
• Excellent writing skills including grammar, spelling, handwriting
• Ability to read, write and analyze complex information, extrapolate the necessary concepts, and express them in written form
• Experience working with diverse populations
• Knowledge of T.C. milieu
• Knowledge of clinical chart maintenance
• Familiar with DSM-IV, as well as diagnostic and prescriptive psychotherapy with dual diagnosed clients
• Experience conducting family therapy
