JOB SUMMARY:
Journey-Level II Counselors are responsible for directly training and supervising a counseling team who provide opportunities for group learning and group cohesion.  In addition, Clinical Coordinator manages a caseload of clients through all phases of program.  S/he ensures that all clinical functions and documentation are correctly executed and participates in program planning, development and overall management.  Primary responsibility is to support development of a thriving Therapeutic Community.  Achieves this by demonstrating leadership and integrity, providing opportunities for group learning and group cohesion, and by managing caseload of incarcerated male clients through all phases of treatment, up to release from prison.  In conjunction with specialized staff, develops treatment plan focused on recovery from substance abuse and other issues that could prevent clients leading a clean and sober life (i.e.  life skills, health/mental health problems, educational/vocational challenges, etc.)  The positions shall conduct group and individual meetings, evaluate the progress of the participants assigned to their substance abuse program services groups, work directly with the inmates to develop and implement IPTCSAP services plans and Substance Abuse Services Coordination Plans for continued community substance abuse program activities, and work with the inmate to create a support network for the offender's pending return to the community.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Supervisory Responsibilities: Responsible for TC processes, e.g., house meetings, extended groups and seminars.  Coordinates staff schedules.  Responsible for clinical schedule.  Provides direction and supervision for reports.  Provides guidance to Mentor Program clients.  Participates in all supervision, including but not limited to, interviewing, hiring, training, motivation, discipline, evaluation, and termination.  Responsible for devising and implementing a course of action to achieve clinical goals.  Facilitates staff meetings.  Attend Tuesday morning touch base with all SAP staff.
Administration and Compliance: In accordance with guidelines established by Walden House to satisfy internal and external administrative demands, and those of evaluating and contracting agencies, maintains accurate and timely records on clients and staff.  Ensures action on items in logs daily.  Ensures that staff completes IT forms properly.  Participates in Facility CQI.  Ensures that significant events are documented in logs.
Community Responsibilities: Facilitates groups, teaches classes, workshops and seminars.  Takes staff suggestions for treatment strategy.  Participates in program planning, curriculum planning and all development efforts.  Works rotating shift, responsible for safety of house, and responds to grievances. Mentor all peer mentors, elders, pioneers, and core group.
Treatment Planning: Facilitates clinical assessment team meetings.  If disagreements arise, makes final decision regarding treatment plan.  In conjunction with staff, evaluates client needs and develops treatment plan.  Updates plan as clients progress through phases of treatment; finally refers clients to Transitional Case Manager who arranges continuing treatment after parole.
Caseload Responsibilities: Holds individual and group sessions with clients in caseload (up to 18 clients).  Assists clients in taking responsibility for own actions by giving “learning experiences”, verbal reprimands, enforced reflection times, and facilitating “confrontations”. 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Demonstrated ability to train/teach subordinates
• Minimum 2 years experience as counselor
• Knowledge of group process, group facilitation and conflict resolution
• Excellent writing skills including, grammar, spelling, handwriting
• Ability to read, write and analyze complex information, extrapolate the necessary concepts, and express them in written form
• Experience working with diverse populations
• Knowledge of T.C.  milieu
• Knowledge of special treatment needs for substance abusers
• Knowledge of clinical chart maintenance
• Ability to serve as client role model
• Within two (2) years of hire into the program, journey level staff shall be certified, in substance abuse program services within a criminal justice setting.  The accrediting educational institution shall use criteria consistent with standards for addiction counselor staff competencies developed by the UCSD.


SALARY:  $30,000 - $36,400 plus Walden House offers a full range of benefits, including medical, dental and vision, as well as 401(A) & 403(B) for all Full time employees.
